About St. Michael Catholic School

St. Michael Catholic School, established in 1997, is a parish elementary and middle school with approximately 700 students in grades pre-school through Grade 8.  St. Michael School is accredited through AdvancEd and the Kentucky Commission for Non-Public Schools.  St. Michael School is also a member of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) and was awarded Blue Ribbon School status by Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc.


The school has a reputation for excellence in academics and a caring, family environment, which facilitates learning and the child’s spiritual, social, emotional and physical growth. We recognize a triad partnership between parents, teachers, and students.  Within this nurturing community of mutual respect, students become responsible lifelong learners.  St. Michael graduates are well prepared for academic success in high school and beyond.

All students are admitted to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The campus is located on 16 acres in a neighborhood setting in Louisville, KY. The school includes:

  • 32 classrooms, science lab, library, combined with our Research and Innovation Center, music room, art room, three resource rooms, gymnasium with a walking/running track, drama room, cafeteria, two playgrounds, basketball courts, and playing fields. We also have added a new the Bill and Margaret Evans Technology Center.
  • St. Michael students have access to the following technology: the school-wide network, the Internet, desktop and laptop computers, iPads, MAC Books, Chromebooks, LCD and document projectors, document cameras, Interactive Flat Panels, wireless access, and interactive whiteboards.

Our school has 39 faculty members, many with advanced degrees. Additionally, we have a full-time Principal, Assistant Principal, Counselor, School Business Manager, School Office Manager, Recptionist and three resource teachers. Full-time Instructional Assistants assist in grades K-8.

The Terra Nova National Achievement test is administered annually in the spring to students in grades 3, 5, and 7. Students in grades 5 and 8 take the ACRE (Religion test). All students participate in Accelerated Reader and the STAR Reading Assessment. MAP Testing is given in K-8th grade in Math, Reading, and Science. Students in grade 8 who plan to attend a Catholic High School will take the High School Placement Test, which is the admissions test for Catholic high schools in the area.

The school day begins at 7:45 a.m. with student drop off beginning at 7:00 a.m. We have buses, walkers, carpool and extended school care until 6:00 p.m. Our cafeteria features breakfast, two hot lunch entrees, and a full salad bar daily, or students may bring their lunch to school. Students in kindergarten have a milk break each morning. All students are allowed to carry a clear water bottle throughout the school day.

We communicate with parents in many ways. Each family has an account on our internal website, Sycamore Education. Sycamore is a cloud-based system and includes features to manage student demographics, attendance, grades, assignments, registration, digital storage, and mobile-friendly student/parent portal.

Parents may receive voice calls, text messages, and/or emails for school alerts. Grade level teachers send out a weekly newsletter which shares upcoming test and project due dates as well as the current content being taught. Knights News, which is a school-wide newsletter is also sent out weekly to all parents.
