The Junior Kindergarten (JK) program is designed for children who are eligible by will turn 5 years old by October 1.  The structure mirrors a Kindergarten classroom in layout, schedule and curriculum. Each child receives academic instruction while bolstering a sense of self-confidence and accomplishment.

This full day program is offered five days a week.  Maximum class size is 18 students.  In a nurturing environment, children are guided through a developmentally appropriate curriculum that lays the foundation for a successful transition into Kindergarten.  This program is staffed by a certified teacher and full-time instructional assistant.

JK program provides a learning experience that meets the individual needs of children academically, socially and emotionally. Taught in small groups, theme-based units of learning include:

  • MULTI-CULTURAL SOCIAL STUDIES
  • HELPING HANDS/ RELIGION
  • ENRICHMENT IN PE, SPANISH, ART AND MUSIC

Children will become familiar with the structure and format of a day in Kindergarten while developing critical skills needed for elementary school, such as:

  • Following multi-step instructions
  • Organizing work
  • Controlling impulses
  • Sustaining attention
  • Finding multiple ways to solve problems
